It looks as if 2011 won’t be a repeat of 2010 in the area of Black films. A new independant collective, the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement, is debuting I Will Follow this weekend at the AMC Theatre in Santa Monica. The film, described as a poignant drama about the grieving process, stars veteran actor Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Feature filmmaker Ava DuVernay is the brains behind the film, and the vehicle that is distributing it.
AFFRM plans to release two films a year with the next release scheduled for this fall. Our support of this initial film will help fuel the opportunities for more films of its kind to enter our theatres. AFFRM is currently supported by a collective of Black film festivals including Los Angeles’ own Pan African Film Festival and others in Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, and Seattle.
I Will Follow is playing at the AMC Criterion 6 located at 1313 Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica, CA. Please check the link for showtimes and support this film!
