10 Torn Layers of Silk is a play written in Choreopoem format (a choreopoem is a form of dramatic expression that combines poetry and dance. the term was first coined in 1975 by Ntozake Shange in a innovative piece, presented in a confrontational, ‘in your face’ style, is a precursor to choreopoem, spoken word, and music.

Presented by Journey, an organization that embraces multicultural women from all walks of life, this thought provoking play is written by Makresha M. Reneau and Aisha Duncan. Based on true life stories of 10 women of Journey who have transformed liked butterflies and have chosen to share with audiences in both theatre and self-published book: 10 Torn Layers of Silk ‘ Journey from Fear to Faith’.

Revealing deep secrets of their past and shedding the sour layers of skin that have defined their lives on this Journey are: Aisha Duncan, Charli Taylor, Darline Dupree, Thea Austin, Tanya Stanford, Toushonta Hogan, Felicia Stinson, Rebecca Bell, Kumesha Driver and Deborah Magbie. This play leaves the audience with the thought that ,“today is Now and yesterday is a memory that has replaced healing and time.”
